Fun Spot America Theme Park

Great Value Amusement Park near Orlando Florida

Fun Spot America is one of the few independent theme parks in Orlando Florida, located across the other side of International Drive from the sprawling Universal Resort.

If you don’t really like the idea of tackling the enormous list of attractions and rides at one of the more famous Orlando theme parks, Fun Spot America is a great choice as it offers cheap day passes for $30-40 (which includes full access to all the ‘thrill rides’, ‘gator spot’, go-kart tracks and a sister park located in Kissimmee). There are also pay-as-you go options, with most of the rollercoasters costing around $6 to ride.

This particular Orlando amusement park also stays clear of any branded rides promoting movies or Hollywood gimmicks, instead focussing on the adrenalin-filled rollercoasters, an excellent line-up of go karting tracks and a whole bunch of attractions for the younger kids to enjoy.

On the coaster front, probably the highlight is the ‘Skycoaster’, which takes you up to a height of 250 feet (the world’s second tallest of its type), before dropping you down to the ground, replicating the feeling of jumping out of an airplane! Other popular white-knuckle rides at Fun Spot America include the ‘Freedom Flyer’ with is many twists and turns, as well as ‘White Lightning’, the only real wooden rollercoaster in the whole of Orlando.

Fun Spot America is well known for its racing and go-kart attractions too; it has four different tracks in total, plus some more child-friendly bumper cars onsite. For those taller than 54”, there is ‘Conquest’ (blue track), ‘Commander’ (green track), ‘Quad’ (yellow track) and ‘Thrasher’ (red track). The tracks all have unique patented designs, and also twist and turn above and below one another, adding a whole new dimension to the experience. Racing is included in the day pass, or you can pay $9 a go.

For the little ones, there are more than enough rides at Fun Spot America to keep them occupied for the best part of the day. Those above 46” can float around on the bumper boats, fly around on the paratrooper or get lost in the Scooby Boo obstacle course, while smaller children (above 24”) can ride the happy swing, or try one of the old-school amusement-park games at Orlando Midway or the adjacent arcade. There are also a few shops, cafes and restaurants onsite for lunch.

In all, Fun Spot America is exactly that – a fun spot to go with the family if you want to skip the crowds of Universal or Disney. Also, it’s much cheaper and you don’t have to queue for most of the major rollercoasters here – great if you’re short on time. Reach Fun Spot America next to International Drive, just off the Kirkman Road or Sandlake Road I-4 exits.
